University of California, Davis
The Center for Integrated Watershed Science and Management, part of the University of California, Davis, was created in the spring of 1998 in response to the growing consensus among watershed scientists that successful management depends on integration and synthesis across disciplines. The goal of the Center is to support watershed decision-makers and stakeholders by coordinating research, teaching and policy decisions within watersheds. The Center achieves this goal through the following specific objectives.
- develop multidisciplinary university and agency research teams to address key watershed issues;
- streamline administration and agency tracking of grants supporting watershed research;
- coordinate and facilitate the dissemination and exchange of innovative approaches to the study and management of watersheds;
- provide analytical and technical support to agencies working with local, national and international watershed groups;
- provide objective analysis of the costs, benefits, and impacts of public policy and laws;
- create facilities and support for the development of long term monitoring programs for watersheds;
- promote education of the next generation of scientists, engineers, and land use planners devoted to integrated watershed analysis.
The Centers affiliation with the San Francisco Bay-Delta Science Consortium will facilitate the successful attainment of many mutual objectives.
