Several years ago I was recruiting a Vice President of Advertising for a big multi-channel consumer promotion organization and all of US understand that the company needed to make my this new nominee an offer. My next call went to my customer.

When my nominee arrived for his test drive at the car dealer, they’d donuts and coffee waiting for his wife and him. They’d the three versions he enjoyed best prepared to roll, washed and parked in front of the showroom and picked out. When they were told by him which of the versions he enjoyed most, I’d instructed the salesman set my nominee on the telephone and to instantly telephone me. I told my nominee that if my customer’s offer was accepted by him by Monday morning, he’d receive a $10,000 signing bonus to set towards the purchase of the automobile, plus I ‘d personally take of the sales tax. He was thrilled. My customer was happy. I was not unhappy. An actual win-win-win.

Could I get YOU a fresh auto? But the real take away here is that in regards to executive search, being trustworthy is essential, having a substantial foundation of connections is excellent, and getting the customer’s interests is fantastic. But procedure is the name of the game. And of putting more than 550 nominees after 27 years, I got that down cold. And that’s vital when you’re talking about filling mission-essential places, rentals that will determine your success.
