Solicitations for Fellowships

The California Sea Grant College Program is now soliciting applications for the 2004 California State Fellowship Program. The State Fellow Program provides a unique educational opportunity for graduate students who are interested both in marine resources and in the policy decisions affecting those resources. The program matches highly motivated and qualified graduate students with "hosts" in the California State agencies for a 9-month paid fellowship ($2,666 per month) in Sacramento. In the past, Sea Grant State Fellows have been assigned to the California Ocean Resources Management Program, the CALFED Science Program, Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and the California Coastal Commission, among others. Selection of finalists is made by the California Sea Grant College Program, and assignments are decided in consultation with potential fellowship hosts.

The full request for application and application guidelines are available on California Sea Grant's Knauss website at http://www-csgc.ucsd.edu (follow the Education link to California Sea Grant State Fellowship).

Timetable: August 2, 2004: Applications due at the California Sea Grant Office
August 3-11: Interviews for selection of candidates.
August 12-31: Consultation/interviews with potential hosts
September-November: Start of the fellowship

Please contact Shauna Oh at shaunaoh@ucsd.edu or 858-534-4440 for more information. For those of you considering this program, we would appreciate you notifying her of your intent to apply.
